A place of our own

October 20, 2009

Being a wedding photographer it becomes a bit of a challenge to find a location for your own wedding, a location that isn't associated with work. Shawn and I are not the traditional wedding couple (who is really), and we were much more set on what we didn't want than what we did. So we started looking with a few ideas; somewhere we could have the ceremony and reception (to keep it simple) somewhere unique and reflective of the two of us, somewhere without a required caterer (Shawn's a hell of a cook and wants to choose his own food), somewhere we can serve our homebrew (again, Shawn and his boys are brewmasters), somewhere in Seattle, the city we love, and somewhere we can bring our dog. Basically our perfect venue was going to be chill, relaxed and with very few rules; in a word, awesome. So after a whole lot of internet hunting, and a fair bit of actual visits we found it. The Georgetown Ballroom in South Seattle. A bit more $$ than we had hoped (isn't that always true) but awesome. Simple because we get the place for a longtime, the rentals are on site, built in sound (no DJ!) fantastic atmosphere (little to no decorating needed), Rogue (the dog) is welcome for the whole time and it is so Seattle. It's perfect!
